1,3-Diaminoadamantanes are prepared by heating 1,3 - diformamidoadamantanes with aq. mineral acid of 5-80% strength, until hydrolysis is substantially complete. Preferably, the products are recovered by reacting the hydrolysed mixture with an alkali metal alkaline agent in amount to raise to pH to above 9, maintaining the mixture at a temperature (e.g. 20-75 DEG C.) at which a diamine-hydrate precipitates, and separating the hydrate. The invention also comprises hydrates of 1,3-diaminoadamantane (optionally containing 1 or 2 nuclear-attached alkyl groups of 1-20 total carbon atoms) per se. |
