1316609 Continuous casting VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISEN - UND STAHLWERKE AG 26 May 1970 [30 May 1969] 25267/70 Heading B3F [Also in Divisions B8 and F2] In a curved guide apron for a cast strand, guide rolls 28 are supported by pivoted links 30 from curved longitudinal carriers (1-8 and 11-81 across the width of the curve as shown, but there need be only two at each of the inner and outer sides of the curve) in a framework comprising spaced mounting brackets 15, 16 (-21), 151, 161 (-211) connected together by elements 22, 221 to form rigid curved supports interconnected by struts 23, the spacing between the curved inner and outer carrier sets being adjustable for different strand depths and, to establish the parallelism of the curved carrier sets after the space adjustment, at least one of the sets is elastically deformed by means, e.g. hydraulic cylinders 38 (39), which connect the ends of the set to the framework. There may be several roll-carriers 3-6, 31-61 and links 3 across the width of the strand path for wide slabs as shown, but a small plant might have only two carriers at each side of the curve. There may be resilient links (35) (see Division F2). The curved roll-carriers 1-8 or 11-81 at each side of the path curve are joined at their ends by cross-members 9, 10 or 91, 101. As shown, the carriers 11-81 are releasably connected to the supports 151, 161 (-211) by bolts 131, but the carriers 1-8 are connected to the supports 15, 16 (-21) to be adjustable towards or away from the strand path by exchanging spacers 25, 26. Alternatively, the outer-side carriers or both sets of carriers may be adjustable. To change the spacers 25, 26 on bolts 13 for ones of different size, wedge fasteners 14 are loosened and then the carriers are pulled tightly to the supports 15-21 so that there is elastic deformation of the carriers 1-8. The latter carry slides 24 which move in slots 11a (extending parallel to the path) in lugs 11 on the carriers and the slides are connected to the brackets 15, 16 (-21) by bolts 12 and the bolts 13 with their wedge fastenings 14. The curved framework is releasably fastened to the pouring platform or foundation of a continuous casting plant. It may be displaced by means of wheels (31, 32) and may be lifted by a crane, using a lug (33), for exchange for another curved supporting and guiding construction. Cooling water jets are arranged at or within the framework.
