1,167,403. Moulding patterned thermoplastic bodies. T. ONO. 26 April, 1967 [19 Nov., 1966], No. 19291/67. Heading B5A. [Also in Division B6] A method of moulding patterned thermoplastic bodies in a closable mould having a male member 1 and a female member 2 comprises the steps of applying to a limited area of the surface of one of the mould members a layer of a contact-type thermal-release adhesive adapted to bond to a face applied with pressure thereagainst and to weaken in bonding force upon heating, affixing a face of a patterned sheet to the layer, injecting into the mould, from a nozzle 7, a heated thermoplastic material at an elevated pressure to fill the mould and urge the sheet against the adhesive layer to which it is initially bonded by the pressure and thereafter its bond with the adhesive is weakened by the heat, cooling the material in the mould to bond it to the sheet and then removing the moulded body and the sheet from the mould. The adhesive may be a silicone, e.g. dimethyl siloxane. The patterned sheet may be coated with a solution of a heat-resistive synthetic rubber before it is placed in the mould. The patterned sheet or film may be made of cellulose acetate or may be a thermoplastic, thermosetting plastic paper, cloth, leather, wooden flakes or metal sheet, any of which may be coated with cellulose acetate. |
