1321008 Pressure-sensitive material NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO 27 May 1971 [24 June 1970 1 Dec 1970 2 April 1971] 17390/71 Heading D2B A pressure-sensitive record material comprises either on the same paper base sheet or on separate transfer and receiving sheets twocolour forming reactants, one of which is an organic chelating agent for vanadium dissolved in a hydrophobic liquid maintained on the sheet as droplets contained in a pressurerupturable hydrophilic polymeric film material e.g. capsules or a polymer film such as gelatin or gelatin/gum arabic and the other of which is a finely divided oil-insoluble salt containing vanadium, e.g. ammonium or sodium vanadates. Specified chelating agents are alkylesters of gallic acid, alkyl catechols, 2,3-dihydroxnaphthalene, 2,3,4-trihydroxyacetophenone, pyrogallol, oo'-thiobisphenols, quercetin and tetrahalocatechols. Specified hydrophobic liquids are mono, di and trialkylamines, alkanols, p - fluorotoluene, 2 - methyl - 3,3,4,4, 5,5,6,6 - octafluoro - 2 - hexanol, triesters of phosphoric acid, dialkyl esters of fumaric, adipic, and phthalic acid, cotton seed oil, monoisopropyl biphenyl, 1 - nitropropane, 1 - phenyl - 2 - propanone and N,N - dimethyl - oleic acid amide. The receiving sheet coating may comprise, in addition to the vanadium salt, silica gel, calcium carbonate, a phenol formaldehyde resin, glycerin, starch carboxylated styrene/butadiene, acrylic and polyvinyl acetate latices and polyvinyl alcohol solutions. The coating of capsules containing chelating agent may contain alpha cellulose fibres and starch. |
