1,059,286. Mixing machines. ULTREX-CHEMIE G.m.b.H. June 26, 1964 [June 29, 1963], No. 26631/64. No. 26631/64. Heading B1C. [Also in Division B5]. In the continuous granulation of pieces of thermoplastic film the granulator comprises two cooperating friction discs rotated relative to each other to generate sufficient heat that the film pieces melt together to form granules. As described the process is carried out in apparatus (Fig. 1, not shown) comprising a first cutting mill (1) to which scrap film pieces are fed, a friction disc mill (2), a second cutting mill (3) and a storage bin (30) with the necessary ancillary appartus including interconnecting pipes, blowers, air separators and hoppers. The feed to the disc mill 2 from the hopper (12) includes a conveyor screw (91) (Fig. 8, not shown) driven by a motor controlled by a bridge circuit to which a heat sensitive element is connected. The mill 2 comprises interengaging crown toothed discs 53, 54 (not shown) one of which is stationary and the others, of which is provided with curved draw - in members (see Figs. 3-7, not shown). The space between the discs is adjustable. The outer part of the first disc has non- radial slots. In a modification the interengaging discs have concentric circles of teeth across their entire faces. A colouring ingredient may be fed to the friction disc mill.
|
