The turbo brake (25) is turned in the normal manner by a differential gear (26) from the rear trailer wheels. The charging cylinder pressure (27) is determined by a relay valve (29) actuated by a compressed air tank (28) regulator valve (11). The air pressure regulator valve (11) is turned by an electric motor (12) by means of a worm drive whereby the reduction ratio is approximately 1:400. The one electric motor pole (13) is wired to earth. The two remaining poles (14, 15) are connected to a regulator lever (20). The lever is held in a neutral position by a spring. The braking effect is achieved by moving the regulator lever into a position which causes the electric motor to increase the air pressure in the charging cylinder (29). When the desired braking effect is attained, the regulator lever is released and the braking continues. The brakes are released by moving the control lever (20) into the opposite position. This reverses the motor rotation allowing the brake pressure to be progressively reduced and maintained if required at a reduced pressure.
