To receive the welding electrodes dispensed in a freely falling manner in a horizontal position, two antechambers arranged upstream of a conveying device are provided. A wedge-shaped, pivotable separating canopy is in turn arranged upstream of these antechambers. The separating canopy feeds a predetermined quantity of welding electrodes to the one antechamber in one working position and to the other antechamber in another working position. The separating canopy is adjusted in each case by a half rotation of a drive-motor shaft (20) via a connecting rod (14) which is mounted on an eccentric pin (18) on the drive motor shaft (20). Lying in the revolving plane of the connecting-rod head mounted on this pin (18) is a stop (27) which stops the connecting-rod head and thus the drive-motor shaft (20) in the two end positions so that the separating canopy cannot swing back when the drive motor is cut out, while the shaft (20) continues to rotate. But the stop (27) is made of a highly elastic plastic so that it cannot block the drive motor, which excludes the possibility of damage to the drive motor. <IMAGE>
