In a magnetic stirring device which has a base containing a plurality of magnetic coils and on which in each case one magnetic stirrer bar and vessels containing the liquid to be stirred and consisting of non-magnetic material can be placed, the stability of the stirring operation is achieved, in a wide range of stirrer bar lengths and rotational speeds set, by means of the pole pieces, which are elongated in a radial direction towards a centre, being bent upwards. A further improvement in the magnetic fields generated can be achieved by means of shims, made of magnetically active material, provided between the pole pieces.
