PURPOSE:To reduce a specific refractive index difference of a core, and also to realize a single polarizing optical fiber which is large in its mode double refractive index, long-sized, low in its loss, and stable in its polarizing characteristics, by constituting so that a shape of a stress providing part, density of dopant, a diameter of a jacket, etc. become optimum. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber for generating a propagation constant difference between orthogonal polarizing modes by giving a non-centered stress distribution to a core 5 of an optical fiber is provided with a stress providing part by which a ratio r1/a of an inside radius r1 of a stress providing part 6 placed in an area opposed to the center of the core 5 and a core radius (a) of a single polarizing optical fiber is within a range of 4-5, and a ratio r2/a of an outside radius r2 of the stress providing part 6 and the core radius (a) is within a range of 10-20, and a jacket part by which a radius (b) of a jacket part 7 placed in an area for surrounding the core 5 and the stress providing part 6 is within a range of 80- 100mum. |
