The gate has a leaf (1) driven open or upwards by a motor and a cover strip (2) on the bottom of the leaf. An optical device detects objects underneath the strip, which is linked by electronic signal to the motor. In the region of the strip is a device (3,6,8) to embed the optical detection device such that it can pivot between its resting or storage postion and its operational position. In its resting position it is flush with the cover strip. The optical device is embodied as a light barrier device made up of a pivotable part (15) to transmit light and a second pivotable part opposite the first to receive light.
