PURPOSE: To make possible telephone service similar to a normal telephone line while utilizing an existent CATV system by using respective frequency bands and time slots for both transmission and reception. CONSTITUTION: A center 2 manages/operates the entire system by providing a CATV head end 10, output interface 12, input interface 13, network manager 39 and multiplex exchange 11 for processing the transmission of 20000 houses, for example. A bidirectional transmission line 4 composed of an optical fiber cable 30, fiber bonder 31 and coaxial cable 34 connects the center 2 and subscriber customer station terminal equipment 3. When the terminal equipment 3 requests the utilization of the line, the center 2 allocates the frequency bands and time slots for transmission and reception. Since time division multiplexing and frequency multiplexing is performed for both transmission and reception, a lot of transmitting means and receiving means can be provided even when the narrow frequency band is used. Thus, a lot of calls can be simultaneously processed. |
