PURPOSE:To make possible nitriding in a low temperature region, by introducing nitrogen, carbon, etc. in the state of plasma, into lattice space of rare earth intermetallic compound and alloy, and increasing the magnetic mutual reaction between rare earth elements and iron group transition elements. CONSTITUTION:Rare earth intermetallic compound or alloy is put in a reation vessel 1 made of glass, into which gas like nitrogen and methan or the mixed gas with hydrogen is introduced under the state of reduced pressure. The gas is turned into a plasma state by glow discharge using an AC transformer, and made to react with the metal in the vessel. Thereby nitrogen and carbon are introduced into the crystal lattice of the rare earth intermetallic compound and the alloy, at a temperature lower than the condition of nitriding and carbonization in the case of ordinary heating. Thereby the magnetic mutual reaction between the rare earth elements and iron group transition elements can be increased, so that the manufacture of material phase which is unstable at a high temperature can be realized. |
