PROCESS FOR PRODUCING ADIPIC ACID

A process for producing adipic acid which comprises using an element of the platinum group and oxidizing hydroxycaproic acid and/or epsilon -caprolactam with oxygen or an oxygen-containing gas. Use of this method makes it unnecessary to use nitric acid resulting in the formation of nitrogen oxide as a by-product or employing considerably high pressure.
