1,237,069. Rotary-piston internal combustion engines. DAIMLER-BENZ A. G. Nov. 12, 1969 [Nov. 13, 1968], No. 55338/69. Heading F1F. In a rotary-piston fuel-injection I.C. engine, particularly but not exclusively of the kind having a three-sided piston and a casing with a two-lobed epitrochoidal inner periphery, to improve the charge admission to the engine when idling, a throttle valve 5 fast on a spindle 6 for rotation in an inlet port 2 in the peripheral wall of the engine casing is provided with at least one opening extending there through in the direction of the port when the valve is closed for the admission of air in addition to air admitted through a controllable idling passage 7. As shown, three openings 10 are disposed through the spindle and six openings 11 in a circle through the valve plate. The disposition of the openings together with the injection of fuel in the direction of arrow 15 provides a strong turbulance to produce an intimate mixture, prevents admission into the suction space in the direction of arrow 9 and prevent exhaust gases entering the inlet port 2. The cross-section of the openings 10, 11 and the adjustment of the passage 7 is such that approximately 80% of the air passes through the openings 10, 11. Passages 7 in a multi-unit engine may be adjusted to balance the volume of idling air as between the units. |
