PURPOSE: To prevent useless detection by defining only a specified range as the object of index detection by an index judgement means. CONSTITUTION: When an outline display key is pushed on a normal display screen, the automatic detection of an index is performed first. An automatic index judgement part 5 retrieves an already detected index setting row successively from a final row (the end of a document). Also, when an index row is not present at all, it is defined as a first leading row. In such a manner, the already detected index setting row is retrieved successively from the end of the document. Thus, when the document is added to the end of the document after the detection processing of the index row is already performed once, the row for which the index is already detected (index row) is specified. Then, automatic index judgement is performed from the index row to the final row and1 is written in the row attributes of the row judged as the index row. Thus, for a document range for which the detection processing of the index row is not performed, the index detection processing is performed. |
