A pliable laminar material comprises a carrier, a layer composed of fibres consisting of the material of the carrier itself or of fibres applied on the surface of the carrier. Such that it contains a proportion of thermoplastic fibres, and a film formed by melting the outer surface of the fibre layer. The material is produced by forming a fibre layer, which contains a proportion of thermoplastic fibres, on the surface of the carrier and optionally applying a thermoplastic synthetic material on the fibre layer in the form of a solution, dispersion or powder, then melting the outer surface of the fibre layer and, if present, the synthetic material by heating thereby forming an outer film, compacting the system so obtained by compression and, if desired providing the outer film with a pattern. The fibre layer may be formed by napping the material of the carrier or by applying a binder to the surface of the carrien and electrostatically applying cut fibres of the desired composition onto this or by forming loops from the material of the carrier and cutting the loops open.</p> |
