A letter box has a storage chamber with a door or flap opening (6, 7) mounted in a casing (1') which is designed for stacking with other such casings which can then be fitted together by positively engaging clamping members (8). The letter box casings are preferably mounted on a pedestal base (2) so that they are basically free-standing and can be set up at any desired location. The pedestal base can be designed as a housing with shelf-type inner compartments (3) for larger parcels or the like. The width and/or depth of the letter box casings are greater than their height. A lamp (20) or other decorative fitting can stand on top.
