PURPOSE:To prevent the leakage of fuel gas and increase a working life by plating the peripheral edge site of a combustion chamber hole with a surface material while forming said surface material in such a way that its thickness on the middle part sides in the longitudinal direction is larger than that on the end part sides in the longitudinal direction. CONSTITUTION:Even if unevenness is generated in the longitudinal direction of a deck because of the deformation due to a bolt clamping force or thermal strain of a cylinder head and a cylinder block between which a metal gasket 2 is installed, it can be compensated by surface materials 14 the thickness of which is larger on the middle sides than on the end sides in the longitudinal direction, formed on the peripheral edge sites 12-1-12-4 of combustion chamber holes 6-1-6-4. As a result, the leakage of combustion gas from a gap can be prevented. And, an alternate load which acts on beads 8-1-8-4 can be made lower due to the surface material 14, preventing the permanent set of the beads while increasing a working life. Also, the damage to a clamping bolt or the site of a cylinder had with which the bolt is engaged can be preventing while preventing the lowering of the clamping force of the clamping bolt, thereby, preventing the lowering of sealing effect.
