The method involves radiating signals of permissible maximum speed by external transmission unit. The signals are received by a reception unit of a vehicle and the speed of the vehicle is adjusted to the permissible maximum speed. Preferably, a further transmission unit sends a signal indicating the abolition of the speed limit at the end of the section with the speed restriction. The signal is received by the vehicle and the speed regulation is stopped. An optical or acoustical signal is generated in the vehicle when a signal is received from an external transmission unit for the speed regulation.
