SOLUTION: In a method for automatically starting mechanical reconfiguration in an electrostatic electrophotographic printer having a photoreceptor belt in order synchronize the activations of various mechanical sub-systems according to the change in the actual photoreceptor belt speed, this method is provided with steps of measuring the actual photoreceptor belt speed to a plurality of selected rotations of the photoreceptor belt, calculating the average photoreceptor belt speed to the selected rotations of the photoreceptor belt, comparing the actual photoreceptor belt speed with the average photoreceptor belt speed in order to determine whether the actual photoreceptor belt speed is within a prescribed range to the average photoreceptor belt speed, and starting the mechanical reconfiguration according to the determination that the actual photoreceptor belt speed is out of the prescribed range to the average photoreceptor belt speed, and the mechanical reconfiguration step includes a step of synchronizing the activations of various mechanical sub-systems according to the average photoreceptor belt speed.
