Oil, supplied through filter ports 2, deflects an annular rubber diaphragm 4a against the action of spring 4, and thereafter flows into a passage 5, through a pleated annular paper filter element 6 and into an outlet passage 10, 11. When the filter becomes too dirty or the oil is too viscous, the oil by-passes the filter element by flowing through the check valve 13 prior to entering outlet 10, 11. The check valve 13 comprises an integral plastics valve member 14 having a flanged head 19 from which depend two legs 16, the legs terminating in hook portions 17 which, in the assembled state of the valve, contain one end of a helical compression spring 18 the other end of which engages the valve seat 20. Assembly of the check valve is achieved by pressing the two legs 16 together so as to permit these to pass through the valve seat aperture. The resilience of the valve member material, which may be glass-filled nylon, ensures that the legs return to their non- deflected condition. |
