HYDROPHILIC MIRROR AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE: To provide a hydrophilic mirror with which the degradation in visibility by irregular reflection of light occurring in adhesion of water drops on the surface is prevented and a process for producing this mirror. CONSTITUTION: The surface on the side opposite to the coating surface of a glass substrate 1 of the mirror formed by subjecting are surface of the glass substrate 1 to reflective coating 4 is provided with a ground surface layer 2 which consists of metal oxide and has fine rugged shapes on the surface. This ground surface layer 2 is provided thereon with a hydrophilic low-molecular org. compd. layer 3. The process for production thereof is executed by applying a soln. prepd. by mixing a sol soln. of the metal oxide into a soln. mixture contg. at least a suspension contg. fluororesin particulates and water on the glass substrate 1, thereby forming the ground surface layer 2 consisting of the metal oxide formed with the fine rugged shapes by baking the coating to the thermal decomposition temp. of the fluororesin or above. The surface of the glass substrate 1 on the side opposite to the ground surface layer 2 is subjected to the reflective coating 4 and the hydrophilic low-molecular org. compd. 3 is applied as it is or after dilution with water or org. solvent on the ground surface layer 2 and is dried, by which the hydrophilic low-molecular org. compd. soln. is securely adhered into the pits of the fine rugged shapes.
