To retain the end of the thread reserve formed on the bobbin edge during the winding operation on a winding machine, especially on an automatic cross-winding machine, after the formation of the thread reserve the floating thread end which occurs is directed by means of an air stream into the winding region of the actual yarn body and is fixed by this. For this purpose, the end face of the bobbin is assigned the mouth of a blow-in tube for blowing the floating end of the thread reserve into the winding region of the actual yarn body. This allows an effective thread fixing by the simplest means.
