NEW MATERIAL:An antibiotics conagenin of the formula or salts thereof. USE:An anti-cancer agent having a remarkable anti-cancer effect against mouse Ehrlich's solid cancer. PREPARATION:A conagenin-producing bacterium belonging to Streptomyces genus is cultured and the objective antibiotics conagenin of the formula is obtained from the cultured material. As the conagenin-producing bacterium, e.g. Actinomyces MI696-AF3 strain (Bikokenkinki no. 10598) is exemplified. Pysiochemical properties of conagenin are as follows. Shape: colorless plate crystal; Elemental analysis: (C 47.96%, H 7.67%, N 5.64%, O 38.19%; Mass spectrometric analysis: 250.1291 (M+H)<+>, (by high resolution mass spectrum), Molecular formula C1OH19NO6; Melting point: 159-161 deg.C; Specific rotatory power: [alpha]D<27>+55.4 deg. (C 1.0, methanol); Solubility: readily soluble in methanol, soluble in water and slightly soluble in chloroform, etc. |
