PURPOSE:To provide a method for drawing a wire of optical fiber in which the variation in outside diameter is not caused in the optical fiber drawn into the wire even if optical fiber preforms are continuously fed and operation is safely performed without increasing the size of an apparatus, and the apparatus therefor. CONSTITUTION:The displacement of a preform 6 on the lower side is sensed in regrasping optical fiber preforms 2 and 6 with preform holding parts 1 and 4 and the preform holding parts holding the optical fiber preforms are aligned and controlled based on the sensed displacement in a method for continuously drawing a wire of optical fiber by feeding the lower end of the optical fiber preform 6 into a heater 7, simultaneously melting the preform, drawing the wire, connecting the optical fiber preform 2 on the upper side to the optical fiber preform 6 on the lower side, alternately regrasping the optical fiber preforms 2 and 6 with the preform holding parts 1 and 4 and continuously drawing the wire of the optical fiber while continuously feeding the plural optical fiber preforms into the heater 7. |
