PURPOSE:To enable changing the function of each of switches by a method wherein a function assigned to a switch is stored and displayed, retained as information, and, when the switch is depressed, the function assigned to the switch at the time is executed through decision. CONSTITUTION:When the function of a switch is changed, a question is asked, reading, for example, 'What function do you assign to the switch 6a?', together with various choices for the answer on a display 8. When from among these choice is made for, for example, 'stop the operation and change over', the switch 6a is assigned a function of stopping the operation and changing over in a storage 9. The switch 6a is henceforth recognized as a switch for stopping of the operation and for a changeover. The setting is completed by repeating a like process with each of the other switches 6b, 6c. The information put in storage is retained by backup power 10 so that, even if the power supply to the remote control 1 fails, the information is not cleared before an elapse of a certain period of time.
