PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF PENICILLANIC ACID 1.1-DIOXIDE

The titled compound of the structural formula(I-a) for inhibiting beta-lactamase is prepared by (A) forming penicillanic acid of the structural formula(III) by reacting 6,6-dibromopenicillanic acid of the structural formula(II) with hydrochloric acid under metallic catalyst such as zinc or magnesium, and (B) reacting the compound(III) with the mixture of interfacial mobile catalyst and inorganic peroxide, or interfacial mobile catalyst, organic peroxide and inorganic peroxide. The obtained compound(I) is useful for beta-lactam antibiotics such as ampicillin, capenicillin or cephazolin.
