PURPOSE: An Internet TV studying system and a method of controlling the system are provided, so that a user gets new vocabulary and sound studying services all the time through the network. CONSTITUTION: An Internet TV studying system performs data communication with a data server(200b) and a mail server(101). The data server searches for predetermined vocabulary and sound information with reference to vocabulary/sound databases storing vocabulary and sound information, and outputs the searched information. The system includes a user server(100a) for receiving predetermined studying data transmitted from the mail server or for allowing a user to search for the studying data, a text detector(103) for detecting predetermined vocabulary information selected by the user through the user server, and the first and second databases(106,107) for storing vocabulary information and sound information, respectively. The system further has a data updating part(105) for receiving vocabulary and sound information from the data server when the vocabulary information detected by the text detector does not exist in the first database to update the first and second databases, and a controller(104) for judging if the detected vocabulary information exists in the first database and for outputting a update control signal to the data updating part.
