In direct-flow furnaces the flue gas is taken into a flue gas pipe (11) at the end of the furnace. A sharp bend is required for this in which flow separation regions may occur. According to the invention, secondary air streams are blown at the connecting aperture (10) between the combustion chamber (1) and the flue gas pipe (11) in such a way that two opposite eddies are generated in the flue gas pipe (11). The eddies ensure that the flue gas streams are highly turbulently mixed and provide a uniform temperature and speed of the flue gas over the flow cross-section.
