water-soluble wood preservatives active against fungi and insects are produced by adding solubilising agents to sparingly soluble cpds or mixts forming sparingly soluble cpds having one or more toxic components. The toxic components are pref. arsenites, arsenates, Cu, Zn, Cd, Pb or Ba salts borates or phenols or their derivs. The cpds are solubilised with an acid or alkali, the wood is impregnated with the soln, and pH changes in the wood fix the sparingly soluble cpd. The products are more active against basidiomycetes than fluoride-contg preservatives.
|
