The connection mechanism is fitted between the accelerator pedal of a vehicle with an automatic transmission and the engine throttle flap. It has a lever (14) joined by a cable (20) to the flap and a second cable (38) connected to the transmission (42). The first cable passes through a switch (36) with a spring (50), a spring bow (72) and a ramp (74), enabling the driver to overcome the force of a counter spring (32) to achieve a kick-down effect. USE/ADVANTAGE - Kick-down arrangement which will still work should the spring fail.
