PURPOSE: A viscous coupling is provided to obtain excellent stability in operation and to reduce abrasion resistance to the minimum. CONSTITUTION: In a viscous coupling, a first coupling plate(17), connected to a first rotating part(11), and a second coupling plate(18), connected to a second rotating part, alternate longitudinally with each other. The second coupling plate alternates with a clamping ring(20) at the second rotating part. The clamping ring includes an annular chambers(16), a first axial adjustment device(23), a braking assembly for a setting ring(24) including a second viscous coupling with a second annular chamber(30), and second axial adjustment devices(36,37). The first axial adjustment device acts axially on the second coupling plate and the clamping rings, blocks up against each other and with second of two rotating parts, which consists of a ball-ramp mechanism with a non-turning but axially movable pressure ring(25). The first axial adjustment device includes the free rotary-setting ring. A ball is disposed between both rings and the ball is disposed in a ramp-shaped cylindrical groove(28).
