The invention relates to a method of cultivating crop bearing plants, comprising the steps of providing a substrate (2); growing at least one crop plant on or in the substrate with original roots in the substrate and at least a stem (7) above the substrate; after harvesting crops from the at least one crop plant for a period of time, arranging a root growth promoting element (14) at the stem at a distance from the original roots; and allowing additional roots to be formed at the root growth promoting element. The invention further relates to a system, a substrate or substrate element, and a warehouse for cultivating crop bearing plants.
