PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely operate a valve drive device of an engine, while simplifying the structure and reducing the size. SOLUTION: The valve drive device of an engine comprises: an oscillation cam 30 of which the other end side is provided with a first part 32 in contact with a cam part 1a of a camshaft 1 and a second contact part 33 directly or indirectly in contact with a valve 2 for intake or exhaust; and a movable holder 20 supporting the oscillation cam around an oscillation axis S2 in parallel with a camshaft to be capable of oscillating, and supported to be movable so as to make the oscillation axis be closer to or separated from the camshaft. As a drive mechanism driving the movable holder 20, a plate-like cam 60 abutted with an end surface 21a of the movable holder and exerting cam action thereon, and a drive source 50 rotary-driving the plate-like cam 60 are provided. Therefore, the structure is simplified, the size of the device is reduced and a cost thereof is reduced, and the valve can be surely driven while preventing an inoperable state caused by biting or defective positioning caused by backlash.
