Appts. for synthesising urea from NH3 and CO2 at 100-150 degrees C and 100-300 kg/cmt2 comprises an upright cylindrical reactor subdivided by a series of perforated lateral partitions. The perforations are provided with movable elements in the form of balls, mushrooms, hemispheres, cones or plates, which permit only one-way flow. The reactor gives low linear flow rates (which favour high urea yields per unit vol. of reactor) while preventing backflow of th reaction mixt. due to internal circulation.
