PURPOSE:To obtain a complex ceramic material having improved strength and fracture toughness even by either normal-pressure or high-pressure sintering means, by blending a ceramic matrix with SiC particles of specific state or SiC whiskers as a reinforcing material. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic matrix is blended with SiC particles having 1-20mum average particle diameter or SiC whiskers having 1-10mum average diameter and 1-15 aspect ratio or a mixture thereof in a blending ratio of volume content of 5-50%. Then the blend is sintered under normal pressure, uniaxial pressurizing or isotropic pressurizing. Various kinds of ceramic powder belonging to a carbide-based, a nitride-based or an oxide-based ceramic such as TiC, Si3N4 or Al2O3 may be cited as the ceramic of the matrix. |
