The invention relates to a device and a method for rotation of a horizontal large-scale process cylinder 1 at low speeds about its longitudinal axis. In the device and the method according to the invention the cylinder 1 in its lower part is supported by a fluid or gel-like medium 2 that applies lifting force to the cylinder 1. The device has elements 3, 4; 7 for rotating the cylinder 1 in the said supporting medium.
