PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an azetidinone derivative for synthesizing a carbapenem compound having an antimicrobial activity. SOLUTION: This method for producing the azetidinine derivative represented by general formula (6) (wherein, Ar means an aryl group or a heteroaryl group) or a hydrate thereof is characterized by treating a compound represented by general formula (2) (wherein, Y means silyl group or hydrogen atom; and Z means a protecting group) with a compound represented by general formula (3) (wherein, X means a halogen atom; and R means a lower alkyl group or an aryl group), further treating the resultant compound with a compound represented by general formula (4) [wherein, Ar has the same meaning as that described in general formula (6)], carrying out operations, i.e., the operations to treat the compound represented by general formula (2) with the compounds represented by general formulae (3) and (4) once, twice, three times or four times or more, producing a compound represented by general formula (5) [wherein, Y, Ar and Z have each the same meaning as that described in general formulae (2) and (6)] and subsequently treating the resultant compound with a titanium compound in the presence or absence of a reactional aid in a single solvent or a mixed solvent. |
