PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To safely and inexpensively obtain a mixture of cycloalkanol and cycloalkanone, useful as a feedstock for producing polyamide monomers, in high yield by adding a specific metal compound and an n-substituted imidazole to a solution containing cycloalkyl hydroperoxide to decompose the peroxide at a high decomposition rate. SOLUTION: (A) A ruthenium compound (for example, a ruthenium complex, such as tris(acetylacetonato)ruthenium or dichlorotetrakis(dimethyl sulfide) ruthenium) (A1 ) or a cobalt compound (for example, an organic acid salt such as cobalt acetate, cobalt naphthenate) A2 and (B) an imidazole of the formula (R is a 1-8C alkyl, a 5-8C cycloalkyl, a 6-10C aryl, a 7-11C aralkyl) are added to (C) a solution containing cycloalkyl hydroperoxide (C1 ) to decompose the compound of C1 . |
