1,208,867. Rolling. DAVY & UNITED ENG. CO. Ltd. 8 April, 1968 [6 April, 1967] No. 15829/67. Heading B3M. A rolling mill housing incorporates two pairs of posts 13, 14, a base, and a top 18 which is vertically displaceable relative to the posts, and which carries extensions 46 for use in bending an uppermost roll 22. Similar extensions 54 serve for bending a lower roll 22, the extensions each carrying yokes 48 or 55 which act on the roll ends and are hydraulically operated by cylinders 47 or 53. Further cylinders 43 control the spacing of the top 18 from the posts and may form part of an automatic gauge control system. The top 18 can also be adjusted by nuts 35, which co-operate with threaded bolts 34, and are rotatable by motors 41. The bolts are either anchored to the top of the posts 13, 14, or are extensions of elongated rods which pass both through the posts and the base 12 and which can be pretensioned. In the former case, the pairs of posts are cast integrally as closed loops. Straps 56, which are normally bolted to the posts, are then cast, together with a base section with the posts. |
