<p>The seal packing ring (2), is connected to a rubber ring of circular cross-section (3). Thicker bands (4, 5) are attached to both ends of the packing sleeve (2). The inner band (4) curls over the end of the inner pipe. The outer band (5) flares out into a thinner flange (6) with an end toroidal rubber rim (7). The circular ring (3) sits in an annular depression (8) in the packing sleeve and is squashed radially between the sleeve and the outer pipe, which unseats it from the depression (8) when the pipes are pushed together. The band (5) limits the axial travel of the circular ring.</p> |
