ON-VEHICLE NAVIGATION DEVICE

PURPOSE:To make it possible for a driver to display a map of constantly proper scale without performing control to select the magnification of display by selecting a map of scale just proportional to the measured speed of a vehicle. CONSTITUTION:The present position of a vehicle is found according to output data detected by a terestrial magnetism sensor 6 and a wheel velocity sensor 7. An output controller is provided which obtains display data together with a map of the area around the vehicle position which is stored on a road map data base 8, thereby performing the display control of a liquid crystal display 3. A locator device 1 has a built-in CPU for selecting the magnification of the map displayed on the liquid crystal display 3 according to vehicle speed detected from data on vehicle speed input from the wheel velocity sensor 7. In this case the locator device 1 functions as a scale select means. The reduced scale of a display map can thus be automatically selected according to the vehicle speed read by the wheel velocity sensor 7.
