The system seals the joint between the male and female halves of a socketed pipe coupling, having a wedge-section seal (5) whose inner peripheral surface (6) fits against the joint face (7) of the male half (8), while the outer one bears against that of the socket on the female half. A slide hose (1) filled with lubricant (2) fits on the outer peripheral surface (9) of the seal. Its outer surface (10) bearing against the socket can be ribbed (4), and it can have a holding hook (13) fitting over the free edge (11) of the seal.
