<p>PURPOSE: To align cutting lines by moving an X moving element integrally with a workpiece in an X coordinate direction during its advancement, for decreasing position errors in the X coordinate direction between the workpiece and a cutting apparatus part, and by detecting and compensating at least position errors occurring in the X coordinate direction. CONSTITUTION: During the advancement of sheet material brought about by a conveyor mechanism, a sheet material cutting apparatus is actuated to move an X beam 38 relative to a frame in response to marker data in a manner enabling the control of the X beam 38 in an X coordinate direction, and to move a Y moving element 33 relative to the X beam 38 in a manner enabling the control of the Y moving element 33 in a Y coordinate direction, thereby cutting a segment of a shape corresponding to the shape of a segment limited by the marker data. In this case, a controller uses first and second signals 126, 138 from sensors 82, 84 at the final stage of movement of the sheet material to a cutting site for new segments to provide offset adjustments of X and Y coordinates to the marker data during the subsequent cutting of the new segment of the sheet material.</p> |
