PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the working speed of a substrate for fixing optical fibers so as to shorten the working time and to lessen the wear of a grinding wheel so as to prolong the life of this grinding wheel by specifying the characteristic value of the glass used for a grooved substrate so as to satisfy a specific equation. SOLUTION: The characteristic value of the glass used for the grooved substrate or the substrate 1 for fixing optical fiber is kc>1.5 and satisfies the equation. In the equation, Kc is a fracture tougness value (Kg/m<3/2> ), H is Vickers hardness (kg/m<2> ), E is a Young's modulus (kg/m<2> ). The reason why the fracture toughness value (Kc) is specified to >=1.5 is to lessen the chipping which arises at the time of working. If the value is smaller than the range described above, many pieces of the chipping arise in the edge open parts of V-grooves 2. Next, the reason why R is specified to >=5×10<-8> lies in that the improvement in the working speed and the shortening of the working time are made possible. If the value is smaller than the range described above, many pieces of peeling are developed successively on the bases of the V-grooves 2 with an increase in the working time. |
