<p>A linear conoscope (20) for producing an interferogram of the three-dimensional structure of an object (22). The interfernece pattern of the interferogram varies linearly with the distance from the center of the Gabor lens zone. A realization of the linear conoscope has an anisotropic optical arrangement with two series coupled anisotropic optical elements (30, 32) having respective optical axes oriented such as to cancel quadratic phase shift terms introduced between polarizations of light traversing the anisotropic optical arrangement. A polarization analyzer (18) between the second anisotropic optical element (32) and a detector plane (14) separates the differentially phase shifted polarizations of light emanating from the surface of an inspected object and traversing the anisotropic optical arrangement.</p> |
