PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which can improve the utilization efficiency of light and can obtain an excellent display. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal panel of the liquid crystal display device is constituted by so a liquid crystal layer 105 between a glass substrate 102 having a counter electrode 104 formed thereon and a glass substrate 107 on which a display electrode 106, red, green and blue color filters 103R, 103G and 103B, a quarter-wave plate 110 and cholesteric filters 111GB, 111RB and 111RG are successively formed by laminating. Respective cholesteric filters 111GB, 111RB and 111RG transmit only circularly polarized light of a prescribed wavelength and of one direction turning either of clockwise and counterclockwise turning circular polarization and reflect circularly polarized light turning toward the opposite direction and light of other wavelengths. The color filters 103R, 103G and 103B are placed opposite to the respective cholesteric filters 111GB, 111RB and 111RG. The reflected light is reused so as to improve the utilization efficiency of the light. |
