PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope allowing an operator to perform the opera tion for observing enlarged data easily without any special skill by increasing the depth of field during the enlargement, capable of improving the correctness of diagnostic information by improving the resolution of the enlarged informa tion, and capable of further improving the precision of the diagnosis by facilitat ing discussions among plural doctors. SOLUTION: In the endoscopic apparatus, a normal observation image and a close observation image are picked up by a solid image pickup element CCD by operating a focal point adjusting means for varying the focal distance and the operation distance, and the images are displayed on a display device. The endoscopic apparatus is structured so that the following condition is satisfied; WDwide>WDtele, and fwide>=ftele, where fwide is the focal distance in normal observation; WDwide is the operation distance at the time of normal observation; ftele is the focal distance at the time of close observation; and Wtele is the operation distance at the time of close observation.
