GUN SAFE WITH A LOCKING MECHANISM MOUNTED IN THE BODY OF THE SAFE

A gun safe including a lock mechanism that is mounted to a body of the safe is provided. The locking mechanism operates to selectively couple the safe's door to the body. The locking mechanism includes a locking plate rotatably coupled with the body, upper and lower lock bars pivotally coupled with the locking plate, upper and lower lock bar guides positioned to slidably receive a portion of the upper and lower lock bars. Upper and lower door lock brackets are mounted to the safe's door and receive the flanges on the upper and lower lock bars to selectively couple the door to the body. Further, a central door bracket is mounted to the door to receive the locking plate and thereby couple the door to the body. Also, a user access location of the locking mechanism is positioned approximately 36 inches from a bottom wall of the body.
