[Also in Divisions E2 and F4] - A vehicle cleansing system comprises an enclosure 12, a washing station with a washing gantry 10, a drying station with a drying gantry 11, the gantries 10 and 11 being movable on guide rails 17 and 23, respectively, for reciprocating movement over the vehicle, and a displaceable curtain structure 31 disposed between the two stations to prevent water from the washing station interfering with the vehicle drying. The curtain structure 31 is counterbalanced by weights 35 and is displaceable vertically between uprights 30, 30 by means of two fluid operable double-acting piston-andcylinder devices 38 working through pivotal links 42 associated with curtain structure 31 to move it via its raised inoperative position and its lowered operative position. The links 42 are pivoted at 43 on a pair of back-plates 40-carried by cross-members 41 connecting the uprights 30, and the links 42 are pin-jointed at 44 to the pistons of the devices 38 and to the upper part of the curtain structure 31 at 45. The pins of the joints 45 work in elongated slots of the links 42. The cylinders of the devices 38 are pivoted at 39, to the plates 40. A transverse partition 50 is provided in enclosure 12 to close any gap created above curtain structure 31 when the curtain structure 31 is in its lowered operative position. Displacement of the curtain structure 31 may be timed from the washing and drying stations whereby raising of the curtain structure 31 is prevented whilst either one or both of the gantries 10, 11 are in use. The washing gantry 10 comprises rotary side brushes 13 and an upper horizontal rotary brush 15 and the drying gantry 11 comprises side air ducts 20 and an upper air duct 21.</p> |
